WELCOME TO PICTON STRINGS

Picton Strings 2011

Picton Strings is a String Orchestra Program for young string players from the Picton area of New South Wales.

Picton Strings is run voluntarily for the benefit and education of the students as well as the enjoyment and enrichment of the community.

In 2011, the ACO began a three-year program in Picton. This initiative continues the ACO’s commitment to identifying, supporting and developing school string programs. The ACO will assist in the establishment of a sustainable string program in the Wollondilly area by providing top quality string orchestra training for students.

The first and second years of the program involve three annual orchestral workshops with the Picton Strings and a performance by an ACO ensemble for the community. The young musicians will also attend ACO2 Open Rehearsals at the ACO Studio. In the third year, there will be a special project involving a community collaboration in Wollondilly Shire and a combined concert at the end of the year.

As well as the ACO Picton Strings has enjoyed free workshops in 2010 from Sandra Dackow from the USA, and in 2011 from Loreta Fin (courtesy Alfred’s Publishing).

The Orchestra rehearses every Thursday evening during the school term and performs regularly at concerts, fundraising events, festivals and aged care facilities.

‘Picton Junior Strings’, for younger players,  rehearses on Wednesday afternoons 4 to 6 pm.

Contact me if your child already plays a String Instrument and would like to join.

Cost is $10 per term.
